Tomorrow to do Today's work....

I was listening to this podcast during a recent walk, Creative Inversion by the Accidental Creative Podcast, and the speaker made a reference to an ever popular comment:

We will always have Tomorrow to do Today's work....

If it is not obvious, this comment is usually what our minds tell us, it's what we want to think, but more often than not....tomorrow comes and we still haven't done today's work. Over time all of these 'Today's' build up to a gargantuan To-Do list.

After just purchasing a home with my husband and beginning to establish a yoga business and clientele in a new city (did I mention I am trying to teach yoga full-time....I think this might be the first time on the blog I am typing it out loud), my work continues to pile up daily. I have to admit, I am struggling with what work is even Today's work, what can wait...and not feeling overwhelmed with my pages and pages of To Do's that will likely take me years to complete.

I don't have an answer for you (but if you have any tips for me, I'd love to hear them) :) What I do have is a few thoughts that I have continuously been repeating to myself (silently of course, so people don't think I'm too weird). Here is a list of 'my as often as needed mantras' of sort that have been helping me get through the day:

  • What ONE thing can I do TODAY to feel successful?
  • Just do it!
  • You can not seriously complete your entire To Do list ~ tomorrow be more reasonable with your expectations.
  • What is TODAY's BIGGEST priority?
  • It's OK to take a break
  • Make time for yourself, for your YOGA practice, for a beautiful WALK
  • Just Breathe
  • It's only the beginning of this new adventure, it's NOT going to be easy
  • Anything worth having doesn't just happen, you have to WORK for it
  • You are strong, beautiful, confident and people will want to work with you

So, I think we ALL probably have similar thoughts, to many things to do, not enough time, not enough confidence in ourselves....etc. I invite you to create a list of self confidence boosting mantras you can turn to when you need them to put an oomph in your day. And remember...just pick one thing to do today that will make you feel successful!

P.S. You may have already heard of this, but I love listening to podcasts while I walk, and I use an app on my Iphone called Stitcher...it's free and there are TONS of great podcasts to subscribe to.
