Wildflower Energy

Next week is the half marathon in Nashville that I've been training for. Although I absolutely love taking walks after dinner, through the neighborhood, to the ice-cream or coffee shop and the farmer's market.....these recent LOOOOOONG walks have definitely been challenging for me.

Really....really challenging. As I've mentioned, I"m a walker and lately it seems my pace has dwindled someplace between 13minute miles to sometimes 16 minute or more miles. The cause for this is yet to be known.....likely I need to be training more.... but as the hours progress on my 11+ mile walks a few key things have been keeping me going one footstep at a time:

  • Watching a dog chase a bird
  • Feeling each foot touch the pavement with each step
  • Trees moving from bare branches to full of buds to blooming flowers and leaves
  • Birds flirting with each other in the grass fields of nearby parks
  • Amazing fields of Wildflowers!!

What keeps you going during what feels like a LOOOONG never ending experience? Do you have a Wildflower Energy?

  1. Adore the wildflowers! They are one of my favorite sights to see as I take my walks. Deep breathing is always my refuge when I'm encountering a LOOONG never-ending experience. With a big project waiting for me at work, I'm guessing I"ll use it today--frequently. :-) T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  2. Ever since I decided to toss the headphones, my runs don't seem as long! I like to think of my runs as more meditative, and that's something I'd like to think I could go on doing forever! I like to wonder and think about anything BUT food.

    Good luck with the half-marathon!

  3. I love taking long walks - either as morning exercise or an eve/ night jaunt into town! What keeps me going? Watching my Breath and trying not to make any noise whilst Gliding along the road! :)
