Ask the Universe what you want!

I'm super excited this weekend to be attending a yoga workshop at Infinite Bliss Yoga in Louisville.

Friday night was a lovely, Soul Sandwich, as Mitchel Bleier and his wife worded it full of prana-yama; tapping into our body and calming the mind through specific breath exercises and a yoga class with simply designed yoga sequence. I often find a simple sequence can be a very effective and thought provoking class when taught with a teacher I'm working with the first time. Their cues are usually drastically different than what I'm familiar so I begin to feel poses differently in my body as I work to move my muscles and bones in a pose I've done hundreds of times before into what feels like a completely new pose.

As a teacher it's often difficult to become the student, to just be in the moment and fall into listening and experiencing a new teacher's techniques, wording and approach. Having had a full week at my 9-5 and teaching several classes this past week...I was quite mentally exhausted and in a perfect place to fall into being a student and surrender to the practice.

One question Mitchel ask during our pranayama/meditation was to ask the universe for what you want.  Dig deep and identify at that moment what you truly want, not physically or materially, but what your true self, your emotional, wise soul is craving and seeking. Interestingly I often think something similar each time I set my intention at the beginning of class, be present to be open & learn..... but last night, maybe it was something about how he worded his question (which essentially is similar to 'intention setting' ~ ask the universe for what you want ~ My immediate response was

Permission to not be perfect

It's interesting, when I allowed myself to come out of my logical, thinking mind and fully engage in my breath, tapping into my true feelings, a completely different intention submerged.

Want to try this at home?

  • Sit in a comfortable position
  • Become aware of your breath for a few moments
  • Begin to control your breath - breathing in & out through your nose
    • Take deep inhales & lengthy exhales
    • Experiment with Ujjayi breath, an audible wavelike sound from breathing in & out through the nose and allowing the breath to swirl at the back of the throat like waves in an ocean
  • After a few moments
    • Set a timer if you'd like for 5 or 10 minutes
    • When you've noticed you've settled into a rhythmic breath & your mind's chatter has slowed & it's volume has subsided
  • Ask the universe for what you want
I've heard and read many times, especially recently, when you ask the universe for what you want and you show up and embrace and engage in your inner most desires, the universe answers, shows up for you....delivers in the most unexpected and unanticipated ways. So....go ask..what can it hurt!
