Things I love ~ from 8.5 miles of walking

I've been training since March for a half-marathon in June. Since I am a WALKER, dare I admit (yes, you can be a non-runner and still do a half-marathon!!), my training consists of:

  • Timed walking, almost daily, between 25 to 50 minutes
  • One long walk a week, each week the LONG walk increases in mileage (starting at 2 miles all the way up to 13 miles)
  • One rest day a week

Today's walk was meant to be 11 miles, but I was only able to squeeze in 8.5 miles before it got too dark to be roaming the DC streets (yes, that's the excuse I'll use, and also because my low back and hip flexors were SCREAMING at me to get home and put myself into a yoga stretch).

I wanted to share some of the things I LOVE while I'm on these LONG walks around DC....

1) DC is full of beautiful monuments to capture. I don't think I'll ever get tired of looking at the capitol, Washington monument or Mr. Abe. In different light, times of the day, seasons, I'm always a giddy tourist at heart wanting to capture the perfect picture.

2) Flowers around DC ~ The city does do a wonderful job of ensuring there are glimpses of beauty sprouting throughout.

3) Podcasts. Using the Stitcher app. Some of the inspiring, creative podcasts I listened to tonight and that I completely recommend for your ear~candy, for tips and insights on all things art, creative, yoga and authentic leadership:

  1. I too love wandering around the DC monuments, especially with this gorgeous weather!! I'm also a huge fan of Tranquility Du Jour so thanks for the other podcast recommendations, I'm always on the hunt for "Ear Candy" as you put it. Best of luck with the half marathon!!
