Jump in Feet First

This first week in Louisville was full of uprooting and re-rooting and making many decisions, as I discussed in the Making Roots post. I found waking up and going for a walk/run, other than also being a necessity for my training for the Disney Half Marathon in November, very grounding.

My 1st walk in Louisville was through Cherokee Park; a beautiful, hilly park.
It's as if the city knew I was coming (or at least I felt special).
These lovely affirmations were written throughout the trails. The PERFECT 1st walk in Louisville.

There is a 'grounding' concept as a yoga teacher we learn very early on; making sure the students are grounded/rooted to the earth from their feet first. Essentially, it is difficult to be be anatomically aligned in a pose if your feet are misplaced, creating an opportunity for injury or discomfort. Placing your feet in the right places for your body in each pose, rooting down through all four corners of your foot, feeling stable and comfortable in your foundation allows for a graceful and yet energetic yoga pose.

It is exciting to take new turns, explore places I've never been,  and be in awe of simple beauty.

With each step, each new path, each new street ~ I was creating roots, exploring new places (both physically and in my heart), feeling more grounded and stable in this new environment. I think taking walks is one of the best ways to learn the feel of your neighborhood, maybe even bump into a neighbor and make a connection.

Scenes from the lovely Highland Farmers Market. We bought some fun, bright peppers for stuffing and grilling and some herbs to make our house feel more like a home.
P.S. - anyone know what the seeds are of the bottom right quadrant? They are this amazing bright purple.
