Portland, Oregon 1/2 Marathon Success!!!

Oregon #YogaState ~ Check out the adventure here

Waking up super early for the Oregon Wine Country 1/2 Marathon outside of Portland, Oregon near McMinnville was absolutely worth it for the beautiful sunrise before the race began. The race began at the beautiful Stoller Family Estate Vineyard which was nestled among vineyards and an amazingly modern establishment.

The Oregon Wine Country 1/2 marathon was the 5th half marathon that I completed. However, there was a distinct difference with this one...I actually ENJOYED it! No seriously....really enjoyed it much more than I ever expected. How? Why?

  • The landscape & views were phenomenal
  • Weather was absolutely perfect
  • I put a bit more OOOMPH into my TRAINING
  • And the Oregon wine didn't hurt either

For all of the previous half marathon's I followed an all walking training plan. I do love to walk, especially in surrounding parks, appreciating time with nature, listening to music or podcasts. However, towards the end of 1/2 marathon training programs I would often be walking for 2-3 hours a few times a week, I started to feel drained by the experience.

After the very wet Nashville 1/2 marathon I decided to pick up my pace a bit and train to Walk Run the Oregon Half. I used this training plan which worked very well *thanks to JennyHadfield.com*.

I usually brought my iphone with me during my training walk/runs so that I could use a free interval timer app (there are TONS of them out there, this is just a link to one of them). I set it to buzz me after 3 minutes of walking and again after 1 minute of running.

I'm not 'super fast' as many regularly trained runners are, but I am very proud of finishing with a smile on my face (not literally I was actually quite out of breath when I crossed) at 02:42:38.343.

Good Times post race tasting some of the amazing Oregon wine. Surprised by their Pinot Gris!
Sometimes all you need is one great experience to catapult you into another. I signed up for my 1st Duathlon!! It's next week! Any tips on duathlons? (i have to admit I'm a bit nervous).

What is your next catapulting experience going to be?

  1. Huge congrats! Fab pics! Is that a TranquiliT scarf? If so, I have the same scarf in the same shade--and will have to style mine the same as well! xo T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

    1. Hi Tina! Thank you for the encouragement! It's actually not a TranquiliT scarf...it was a wonderful thrift store purchase from Paris!!!

  2. What great resources, thank you! Love the free timer app. We've been to some Oregon wineries, and I'm not convinced there is more beautiful country anywhere.
