A Day in Corporate Life..Is Yoga teaching still possible?

So, I started a new job a few weeks ago. In between jobs I had two weeks off work (during which I was finalizing all of the yoga teacher training assignments and projects and practicing yoga at least 2x a day). I was in yoga bliss...

This week is about my 3rd week on the job and we are in the middle of close, which for non-accountants means significant work crammed into a few days (i.e....later evenings). Being that I am new I am still in learning mode, so I am mostly observing right now, but wanted to be a part of the process to learn for the next go around and set a good example as a manager....well...that meant that I had too postpone 2x and then eventually cancel the class I was teaching tonight to my regular yogi's that live in my apartment building. I definitely was very upset (probably more than they were).

It made me realize...well maybe not realize, I think I knew this was eventually going to happen sooner or later, but it was evident, that I am going to have to be very careful about how I schedule any teaching opportunities around my 'real' corporate accounting job. JEEZE....life was so much easier when I was off work for those 2 weeks. Needless to say, I did stress out a bit about the whole experience today...being torn between work and teaching yoga to friends. I have to take my own advice and Breathe after all....

Luckily, I did take the opportunity during lunch today to go to the gym in our building and take a yoga 1 class. It was a great 'back to basics' class that I found very challenging (holding poses longer than one typically does in a flow class), plus I wanted to see how the teachers at a gym teach a yoga 1 versus a yoga 1 at a yoga studio. This yoga 1 was vastly different, likely based on the clientele, which were all newbie yogi's or senior citizens. However, the teacher was great; she was patient and yet firm and provided significant prep work and explanation for poses in a clear and understandable way - without any 'yoga philosophy fluff'. She got the class into warrior 3....which I thought was very advanced for this class - but she did a great job of sequencing through a 'marching stork', to stork, to balancing towards warrior 3.

Well...off to bed, I am auditioning tomorrow for my first paying teaching opportunity! So, wish me luck.

P.S. - I came across this adorable picture, I could not resist sharing:
